Job Title: Additive Technician (Metals)
Location: Redmond, WA
Job Type: Full-Time
Job Summary:
TalentWise is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Additive Technician to support production and R&D within our additive manufacturing team. This role will focus primarily on metal 3D printing operations, with exposure to a range of additive technologies. The ideal candidate will be comfortable working hands-on with advanced machinery, maintaining equipment, and ensuring the quality of every printed component.
While prior experience with metal additive systems, especially Renishaw RenAM 500Q or similar laser powder bed fusion machines, is highly valued, we’re also open to technicians with a strong foundation in polymer-based 3D printing who are eager to expand into metal.
Key Responsibilities
Equipment Operation
- Operate and maintain metal and polymer 3D printers (e.g., DMLS, SLM, MJF, FDM, SLA).
- Support powder handling, build setup, and post-processing for metal prints.
- Calibrate and maintain additive manufacturing systems to ensure consistent quality and performance.
- Troubleshoot print failures, perform root cause analysis, and communicate corrective actions.
File Preparation
- Prepare and optimize CAD and STL files for printing.
- Perform slicing and build layout operations for metal builds.
- Collaborate with engineers to refine part orientation, supports, and build strategies.
Quality Control
- Inspect printed parts for dimensional accuracy and surface finish using metrology tools (e.g., calipers, micrometers, optical measurement).
- Conduct powder bed inspections and document quality checkpoints.
- Perform post-processing such as depowdering, bead blasting, or heat treatment coordination.
Material & Equipment Management
- Handle and manage metal powders safely, including loading/unloading and maintaining material traceability.
- Track material usage and maintain documentation for powder batches and machine logs.
- Assist with machine upkeep, preventive maintenance, and equipment calibration.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain accurate logs of print builds, machine performance, and maintenance records.
- Communicate production status, nonconformances, and improvement ideas to supervisors and engineers.
Safety & Compliance
- Follow all safety protocols when working with metal powders, inert gases, and high-powered lasers.
- Adhere to facility safety and environmental guidelines.
- Participate in periodic safety and process training sessions.
